BUFFALO, NY – After opening conference play with a pair of road matches, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team returns home to UB Stadium to begin a three-match homestand this week. Buffalo opens the weekend against Miami (OH) Friday night and then hosts Ball State on Sunday afternoon. This weekend is also Homecoming/Alumni Weekend at UB Stadium and the Bulls will be honoring the 2014 MAC Championship team prior to Sunday's match.
On Friday it will be the 23rd meeting between Buffalo and Miami with the RedHawks going 15-5-2. The Bulls have won two straight against the RedHawks, most recently a 1-0 win in Oxford in 2018.
For Saturday's match it is the 21st meeting Buffalo and Ball State with the Cardinals holding the narrow 10-8-2 series edge. The Cardinals have won the past five meetings, including a 2-1 double overtime victory in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals last season.
Buffalo split its matches to open conference play, picking up a 2-0 win at Toledo on Friday night before falling 2-1 at Bowling Green on Sunday. Senior Kara Daly scored the game-winner in the sixth minute, Annie Judasz cashed in on a beautiful strike in the 26th minute and the Bulls backline held tough to preserve their third clean sheet of the season. At BG, Gianna Yurchak headed in the equalizer in the 43rd minute off a perfect ball from Gurjeena Jandu but the Falcons retook the lead early in the second half and that would be all they would need to secure the victory. Emily Kelly turned in another solid performance, making 11 saves while facing 22 total shots on the weekend.
Miami enters Friday's match with a 2-7 overall record after falling to Central Michigan 1-0 on Sunday. The RedHawks are led offensively by Olivia Winnett and Lyda Bogdanovitch who have each scored two goals, while Bogdanovitch leads the team with 26 shots. Soph Spinnell has also been a contributor, scoring one goal on nine shots on the year.
In net, Miami has relied on Izzie Vaccari who has appeared in eight games for the RedHawks, compiling a 2-5 overall record with a 1.14 goals against average and 48 saves on the year, good for second-best in the MAC.
Ball State enters the weekend with a 7-3 overall record after defeating Eastern Michigan 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. The Cardinals are led offensively by the trio of Grace Alsop, Nicky Potts and Tatiana Hawkins-Dabney who have four goals apiece on the season.
Tristin Stuteville has led Ball State between the pipes, compiling a 6-3 overall record with a 0.70 goals against average and 36 saves in nine appearances this season.
Following weekend play the Rams conclude the homestand as they host Kent State in a 7pm tilt on Thursday, October 10, at UB Stadium.
