
Bulls Earn Gritty Road Draw At Western Michigan, 1-1

KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer team (6-5-2, 2-2-1 MAC) earned a hard-fought road draw at Western Michigan on Friday afternoon, 1-1. Kassidy Kidd scored her first goal of the season in the draw while Celina Carrero picked up her third assist of the season and second assist in as many games for UB.

- The Short Story: Kassidy Kidd opened up the second half with her first career goal but the Bulls were unable to hold onto the lead, giving up the tying goal in the 76th minute. In the final minute of regulation, Celina Carrero nearly ended the match but her shot hit the post.

How It Happened
- After a slow start by both sides, Julia Benati was able to record the first shot on goal of the contest in the 25th minute but her attempt was saved by Stephanie Heber, keeping the game scoreless.
- The Broncos had their best chance to score in the 28th minute but Emma Kahn's shot went wide of the net.
- In the 40th minute the Bulls put some pressure on the Broncos as Kassidy Kidd had her blast go just wide and Dana Lytle saw her attempt get blocked by the defender.
- At halftime, the Bulls held the 4-2 edge in shots as the defense didn't allow Western Michigan to record a shot on goal.
- The Bulls didn't waste much time getting on the board in the second half as Kassidy Kidd scored just 24 seconds in to give UB the 1-0 lead. The Broncos turned the ball over on the opening whistle and Celina Carrero and Kassidy Kidd had a great give and go that ended with Kidd notching her first goal of the season.
- The Bulls continued to pressure the Broncos after Kidd's marker as Carissima Cutrona had her shot blocked and Celina Carrero fired a shot just wide.
- The Broncos were able to tie the game in the 76th minute as Irene Young sent in a good corner that was misplayed by Laura Dougall and punched into the back of the net by Lacey Zahn.
- The two teams went back-and-forth in the final 15 minutes as UB had the best chance to end the match in the 89th minute as Carissima Cutrona saw her hard shot hit the post and the WMU defense cleared the ball away.
- After no action through the opening eight minutes of the first overtime, Laura Dougall was forced to make a nice save off the foot of Kylie Nylen in the 99th minute.
- In the 106th minute, Julia Benati had her shot blocked out of bounds and on the ensuing corner kick, Brianna Shingary sent a shot just wide.
- Laura Dougall made a big save in the 108th minute of action off the foot of Gina Maddi to preserve the draw for the Bulls.
- Rebecca Bramble had the Bulls last chance to earn the win with 15 seconds remaining but her shot was saved by Stephanie Heber.
Inside The Numbers
- The goal for Kassidy Kidd was her first of the season and third of her career.
- With her 10th career assist on Kidd's goal, Celina Carrero is now tied for 15th on the all-time assists list at UB. Carrero now has an assist in back-to-back matches for the Bulls.
- UB held the slim 12-10 edge in shots for the match while Western Michigan held the 9-4 lead in corner kicks.

We left a few chances out there to get the full three points but the grit the girls showed today was tremendous. The play of Kristin Markiewicz, Jackie Hall and Andrea Niper up the middle was fantastic."
