
Women's Soccer Fights Through Windy Conditions; Dominates Northern Illinois, 4-1

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer team (7-5-2, 3-2-1 MAC) exploded for four goals on a windy Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. The Bulls dominated Northern Illinois, 4-1, behind a pair of marker from senior Kassidy Kidd. Kidd now has a career-high three goals on the season for the Bulls, all of which coming in the last two matches.

- The Short Story: The UB offense scored a season-high four goals en route to their third MAC win of the season on Sunday at a windy UB Stadium. The Bulls defeated NIU 4-1 as Kassidy Kidd scored twice and Celina Carrero finished with a goal and an assist.

How It Happened
- Going against the wind in the first half, the Bulls were able to get a great scoring chance in the 13th minute as Kassidy Kidd fired a shot just high as she was in on a 2-on-1.
- In the 18th minute, Northern Illinois had their best chance of the half to score as Allie Ingham had her original attempt saved by Laura Dougall. The rebound came straight out to Taylor Sarver but her shot was punched just over the top of the goal by Laura Dougall.
- The Bulls finally got on the board in the 28th minute as Carissima Cutrona sent a perfect pass into the box to Kassidy Kidd who had her original shot saved but she buried the rebound in the left corner for her first goal of the game.
- The Huskies didn't wait long to respond with a goal of their own as in the 40th minute Lauren Gierman placed a perfect free kick into the top left corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
- In the 45th minute, Nicole Gerritz was dragged down in the box, causing a penalty kick for the Bulls. On the ensuing penalty kick, freshman Rebecca Bramble beat the keeper to the right corner to give UB the 2-1 halftime lead.
- The Bulls came out flying in the second half as they had the wind at their back. Julia Benati nearly netted a goal in the 50th minute but her shot attempt was deflected in front and bounced just wide of the corner of the net.
- In the 59th minute, Celina Carrero broke through with her first goal of the season as Julia Benati fed her a great pass in front and she blasted the ball past the keeper and off the cross bar and in.
- Three minutes later, UB made the score 4-1 as Celina Carrero fed a quick pass to Kassidy Kidd who was alone in front and was able to beat the keeper to the lower right corner for her second goal of the match.
- In the 72nd minute, the Bulls subbed in McKenzie White in goal as she made her first appearance for UB since the 2011 season.
- Jessica Marlowe was able to notch the first shot on goal in her career in the 77th minute as she fired a free kick on goal but the NIU keeper got a hand on it and punched the ball over the cross bar.
- Down the stretch, the UB defense held tough as they allowed just one shot in the final 10 minutes as McKenzie White made a save in the 90th minute.
Inside The Numbers
- The four goals for UB is the most goals they have scored in a game since scoring four goals in a win over Howard on September 5, 2008.
- With the win in goal, Laura Dougall moved into sole possession of third place on UB's all-time wins list with 23 career victories.
- Kassidy Kidd notched her first career two goal game in the win for the Bulls. Kidd now has a career-high three goals, four assists and 10 points on the season.
- Celina Carrero moved into a tie for 14th place on UB's all-time assists charts with her 11th career assist on Kassidy Kidd's second goal.
- Julia Benati tied her career-high for points in a season with 10 with her assist on Celina Carrero's goal.
- Celina Carrero finished with three points, marking the first multi-point effort this season. Carrero has now recorded an assist in three straight matches for UB.
- Rebecca Bramble scored her first career penalty kick goal in the opening half, the second goal of her career.
- McKenzie White made her first appearance between the pipes for the Bulls since 2011.
- Northern Illinois held the slim 13-12 edge in shots and the 5-3 advantage in corner kicks in the loss.
