BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo women's soccer team (3-4-2, 0-2-0 MAC) dropped their third-straight game on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium by the Miami (OH) RedHawks by the score of 1-0.
"This loss was tough for us because these past few games we've played some really good soccer," stated sixth-year head coach Michael Thomas. "To come out and put that kind of effort out on the field and not get the result is disheartening. We need to find a way to get that one ball to go our way."
On what seemed to be a harmless corner kick just two minutes into the second half for Miami, turned out to be the game-winning tally for the RedHawks. Hailey Pleshakov sent a perfect cross into the box where Katy Dolesh fought off two Buffalo defenders and put a shot on goal, just beating Ainsley Wheldon between the legs and trickled across the goal line.
For the game, Buffalo recorded 11 shots including six shots on goal but they were limited to only two corner kicks compared to six by the RedHawks. Jackie Hall led the Bulls with four shots (three on goal) while Wheldon made six saves in the loss.
The Bulls received a great chance early in the first half as Katie Roberts and Karen McMahon played a perfect give-and-go play but the McMahon blast went just wide of the net. Sophie Therien had a good chance for the Bulls off of a free kick but her attempt from 25 yards out was saved by a leaping Miami (OH) goalkeeper.
The second half saw limited chances for Buffalo following the Miami goal as they packed in and played good defense down the stretch. Hall had the best chance for the Bulls but her strike was stopped by a diving Allison Norenberg, preserving the victory for the road team.
The Bulls will hit the road for their first road conference game of the season on Friday, October 4 as they will take on Toledo at 4 pm.
