Delaney Gallagher begins her fourth season as assistant volleyball coach at UB and her second as the program’s recruiting coordinator in 2024. She joined the Bulls’ staff on Aug. 5, 2021. Prior to Buffalo, she came from Louisiana Monroe where she served as a graduate assistant for their program.
Last season under her guidance, the Bulls finished with a 23-9 overall record and 13-5 in MAC play. During the campaign, UB reached as high as 54th in the NCAA RPI Rankings. The Bulls won their first MAC East Division title to earn the #2-seed in the MAC Tournament. UB earned their second postseason berth as they participated in the NIVC. Under his guidance, the Bulls had a program record five student-athletes earn All-MAC honors. Middle blocker Courtney Okwara was on of the nation’s top hitters as she finished with a hitting percentage of .446, good for second in the country. Defensively, the Bulls finished with 1.89 blocks per set.
In 2022, the Bulls earned their first postseason appearance as they played in the NIVC. UB went 19-14 and 10-8 in MAC play. In the MAC Tournament, they upset #3-seed Ohio in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament to reach their first semifinal game in program history.
In her first year with the Bulls, Gallagher helped the Bulls to six wins in league play and 13 overall. Working with the middle blockers, she helped guide Courtney Okwara to a .319 hitting percentage and defensively, 0.87 blocks per set. As a team, UB averaged just under 2.00 blocks per set.
While at Monroe, Gallagher worked both with the indoor and beach teams, creating an elite athletic atmosphere. She was actively involved in recruiting and developing relationships with prospective students. Prior to her time at Monroe, Gallagher worked at North Park University as a graduate assistant for the men’s and women’s programs.
“Delaney is a great fit for our assistant coach position,” said Smith. “She is enthusiastic and passionate about working with our staff, the team, and already shares so many of the values of our program. Her ability to demonstrate skills at the highest level will be invaluable as a role model to our student-athletes. Her mentors have prepared her well for the responsibilities of this position and I am confident she will excel in her role with the team.”
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Gallagher played D-I volleyball at Middle Tennessee before finishing her career at Ole Miss. A middle blocker by trait, Gallagher finished third on the team in hitting at Middle Tennessee as a sophomore and led the Blue Raiders in blocks. She played in 19 matches over her final two seasons at Ole Miss.
Gallagher played at Hume-Fogg High School where she was named all-district for three straight years. She played her club volleyball for the Alliance Volleyball Club.
