Bulls Fall in Midweek Clash Against Akron

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (7-14, 4-8 MAC) lost to the Akron Zips (12-11, 5-7 MAC) on Tuesday evening in five sets, 19-25, 25-10, 25-21, 19-25, 10-15.
Jordyn Romano had a career night as she finished with career-high marks in kills and points with 16 each. Emerson Matthews led the Bulls with 19 kills as Manoela Forlin recorded her fifth double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs.
Maddie Mitchell recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 53 assists and 15 digs. Keira Kleidon and Sadie Gladhill had solid performances on defense as they had 16 and 18 digs, respectfully. Gladhill's 18 digs was a career-high.
Tehya Shaw led the team with four total kills.
The Bulls outhit the Zips in the contest, .244 to .225.
Throughout the entire match, there were only four lead changes. One lead change came in the first set. After the Bulls took a 7-1 lead, the Zips made a charge where they took a 15-14 lead and did not look in the rearview mirror. Akron pulled away to take the opening set, 25-19.
It was all Buffalo in the second set as they hit .407 to Akron's -.074. Buffalo surged out to a 9-3 lead which forced an Akron timeout. Akron called their second timeout of the set at 15-4, but it did not change the set as the Bulls ran away with a 25-10 win.
The Bulls took a 2-1 set lead as they won the third set, 25-21. Matthews had seven kills in the set. Buffalo trailed by as many as four at 10-6, but a 9-3 run propelled them to a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. The Bulls held off the Zips despite a late run.
The fourth set had seven ties, the most of any set on the night. The last tie came at 11-11, where the Zips outscored the Bulls, 14-8 to close the set. Akron outhit the Bulls, .438 to .265, in the fourth set. After the Zips forced the decisive fifth set, the Bulls struggled to win the final set as they hit just .040 to Akron's .160. With Akron up, 9-2, the Bulls made a slight run to make it 11-8. The deficit was too much to overcome as Akron won the set and match, 15-10 and 3-2.
