Bulls Get Tricked at Northern Illinois on Halloween

DEKALB, Ill. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (7-15, 4-9 MAC) lost to the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-11, 4-9 MAC) on Friday evening in five sets, 27-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 10-25.
Manoela Forlin had a match-high 22 kills as Emerson Matthews had 15 of her own. Forlin also added three aces.
Maddie Mitchell recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 44 assists and 15 digs.
Tehya Shaw and Jordyn Romano led the Bulls with three blocks each. Romano added 11 kills for the Bulls.
The Huskies outhit the Bulls, .261 to .184, as they also had more blocks than the Bulls, 12-7.
The Bulls came away with a 27-25 first set win as Forlin was perfect in the set. She started the match with seven kills on seven attempts. The Huskies jumped out to a 7-2 lead as they forced a Buffalo timeout. The Bulls tied the set at 13 where the Bulls scored seven consecutive points. Northern Illinois led 25-24, but the Bulls fought off set point before taking the set.
There were 21 ties in the second set as the teams swapped points. The largest lead of the set came at the end when the Bulls won, 25-23. After two sets, Forlin had a .714 hitting percentage with 16 kills.
In the final three sets of the evening, the Huskies outhit the Bulls, .310 to .082. The Bulls held a 16-13 lead in the third set, but a 5-0 run by the Huskies gave them an 18-16 lead. Northern Illinois didn't trail the rest of the set as they won, 25-19. The Huskies forced the decisive fifth set as they outhit Buffalo, .235 to -.028 in the fourth. In the final set, the Bulls grabbed a 2-0 lead, but it would be the only lead they'd hold. Northern Illinois bounced back as they led 10-6 forcing a Buffalo timeout. A late run by the Bulls wasn't enough as Northern Illinois won, 15-10.
