Bulls Struggle to Close Out Match at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (7-13, 4-7 MAC) found themselves up 2-0 in sets, but the Eastern Michigan Eagles (11-13, 3-8 MAC) found a way to win the final three sets for a 3-2 win on Friday evening, 26-24, 25-18, 13-25, 20-25, 12-15.
Maddie Mitchell recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 38 assists and 15 digs. Manoela Forlin and Emerson Matthews finished with 18 kills each.
The Bulls finished with 14 total blocks. Mitchell had a career-high eight blocks as Ava Kanj racked up six. Tehya Shaw chipped in five blocks of her own for the cause.
Keira Kleidon had a match-high 22 digs as Sadie Gladhill had a career-high 13 digs.
Matthews tied her career-high in aces with three.
The Bulls were dominant in the first set as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The set tightened as the Eagles managed to fight off set point five times before the Bulls won, 26-24. In the second set, the Bulls stuffed the Eagles' offense as they hit .000. Buffalo came away with a 25-18 win as there was only one tie in the set.
The tides turned in the third set. The Eagles outhit the Bulls, .455 to .080. Buffalo's offense struggled to get into gear as Eastern Michigan took the third set, 25-13. Buffalo's offense improved in the fourth set, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Eagles. Eastern Michigan finished with 15 kills to the Bulls' 11. Eastern Michigan forced the fifth set after winning the fourth, 25-20. Buffalo led, 3-1, but quickly fell in a 5-3 hole. Eastern Michigan extended their lead out to 12-6 and carried all the momentum. The Bulls fought off four match points, but it was too much to overcome. The Eagles won the final set, 15-12.
