Bulls Stumble Against the Falcons

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (9-17, 6-11 MAC) fell to the visiting Bowling Green Falcons (15-14, 9-8 MAC) on Friday evening at Alumni Arena, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25. With the loss, the Bulls have been eliminated from MAC Tournament contention.
Emerson Matthews had a match-high 22 kills and added three total blocks. Manoela Forlin had her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs. Freshman libero Sadie Gladhill led all players with 21 digs. She also added three aces for the Bulls, setting a career high. Maddie Mitchell finished with 39 assists.
The Bulls finished with more kills than the Falcons, 52-50, but the visitors had a better hitting percentage, .233 to .190.
In the first set, Bowling Green had six more kills than the Bulls, 17-11. The Bulls held leads at 2-1 and 3-2, but momentum wasn't on their side. Bowling Green went up 19-11, but the Bulls fought back. Buffalo forced a Bowling Green timeout as they only led, 21-19. The Falcons won the set, 25-22.
Buffalo bounced back in the second set as they won, 25-20. The Bulls had a .333 hitting percentage with 17 kills. They also went 15-for-20 on sideout opportunities. Bowling Green's only lead in the set came at the first point. Buffalo didn't trail the rest of set as their lead reached as many as seven points at 16-9.
In the third set, neither team had a stellar offensive attack. Bowling Green hit .132 as the Bulls hit .028. At the media timeout, the Falcons led, 15-13. Buffalo tied the set at 16, but the Falcons held them off as they won, 25-20.
In what happened to be the final set of the night, the Bulls had more kills than the Falcons, 15-11. Unfortunately, Bowling Green took advantage of 16 UB errors as they closed the night out with a 25-19 fourth set win.
