Fall 2012: Led the Bulls with an 8-3 singles record and was 4-3 in doubles play. Reached semifinal round of Princeton Invitational, including a victory over the 94th-ranked collegiate player in the country, Wake Forest’s Danny Kreyman, before falling to 67th-ranked Matija Pecotic of Princeton in the semifinal. Won the Red Flight championship at Cornell Fall Invite as three of his four wins came in straight sets. Earned a seeding and first-round bye at the ITA Regionals before being eliminated in the third round.
2011-12: Earned team co-MVP honors. Went 22-5 in singles and 14-12 in doubles winning first-team All-MAC and 2012 All-MAC Tournament team recognitions. Playing second singles for much of the spring season, finished the season with a 12-match winning streak, including a 5-0 mark against MAC competition. Scored the clinching point in the Bulls’ 4-3 victory over Ball State in the MAC Tournament semifinals as he downed Dalton Albertin (a second-team All-MAC honoree) in three sets. Posted a 5-2 singles and 4-1 doubles record in the fall. Won the C singles and paired with Damien David to win the A doubles titles at the UB Invitational. Competed in singles play at ITA Regionals, falling in his first round match.
2010-11: Led Bulls with 20 singles wins and 19 doubles wins. Earned second-team All-MAC honors. Primarily saw action at second singles but also played third and fourth during the year. Named MAC Player of the Week after winning singles matches over Ball State and Northern Illinois to propel the Bulls into the MAC Tournament. Combined with George Tibil for a 7-0 doubles mark. Defeated teammate Alex Kalinin to claim the D singles title at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational as he went 4-0 at the tournament after combining with Kalinin to win the C doubles title. Reached consolation quarterfinals at ITA regionals. Won A-2 third-place singles title at the Cornell Invitational and teammed with Mitch Zenaty for a third-place finish in the A doubles flight.
2009-10: Joined the Bulls for the spring 2010 season earning the team’s Most Improved award. Went 13-3 (4-1 MAC) in singles play, spending most of the season at fifth singles, where he was 8-2 (3-1 MAC). Scored the clinching point to put the Bulls into the MAC Tournament championship match with a 7-5, 7-5 win against Toledo. Won deciding point in 4-3 regular season win over Western Michigan, the first time the Bulls had defeated the Broncos, as he rallied from a set down to defeat Casey Cullen, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.
Personal: Born September 28, 1990. Son of Emmanuel and Sylvia Hove. Has one brother (Thulani). Rated as the top junior player in his native Zimbabwe. Also a member of the junior national team for five years. Won the Zimbabwe Senior Open in 2009. Favorite athlete is French tennis star Gael Monfils. Favorite musician is Louis Armstrong. Lists Zimbabwe tennis star Wayne Black as the most impressive person he has met and would like to have met heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson. Majoring in chemistry.
