BUFFALO, NY – Four members of the University at Buffalo men's tennis team were named to the 2026 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league announced on Thursday. A total of 26 student-athletes were named to this year's squad.
Senior Theodoros Mitsakos earns the honor for the third straight season, while Emiliano Jorquera, Clement Mainguy and Faiz Nasyam were named to the squad for the first time in his career.
Mitsakos, a communication major with a 3.57 GPA, finished his decorated career ranked in the top 10 all-time in program history with 64 singles wins and 59 career doubles victories. He was named to the All-MAC First Team after reaching double-digit singles and doubles win totals in four straight seasons and came up big once again at the MAC Tournament, putting a point on the board at first singles in the win over Ball State in the semifinals, before helping the Bulls earn a crucial doubles point in the championship match. Mitsakos and Mainguy were also named MAC Doubles Team of the Week a league-best four times.
Mainguy, who maintains a 3.95 GPA and is working on a master's degree in business analytics, has come up clutch in countless moments across his two seasons in Buffalo. He earned postseason honors for the second straight season after being named the Most Outstanding Player at the MAC Tournament Championship, winning both of his matches, including the clinching point in the semifinals, and is now a perfect 4-0 in the MAC Tournament. He was also a force in doubles play, recording 14 wins with Mitsakos.
A business administration major with a 3.43 GPA, Jorquera closed out his UB career recording back-to-back seasons with double-digit singles and doubles win totals. He notched 16 singles victories, including a 7-3 record in MAC play, as a senior, primarily at the fifth position, while adding 10 doubles victories.
Nasyam, a business administration major with a 3.43 GPA, has also notched double-digit singles and doubles win totals in two straight seasons. He led the team with 21 singles victories, including a team-best 8-2 mark in league play, moving him into the top 20 all-time in program history for career singles victories with 45, while also recording 15 doubles wins.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and ANY transfer students in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season only are considered.
