Bulls Travel to Mercyhurst on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team will play three straight games on the road, beginning on Sunday as they travel to Erie for a clash with the Mercyhurst Lakers at 3pm.
It is just the fifth overall meeting between Buffalo and Mercyhurst with the Lakers holding a 2-1-1 series advantage. Mercyhurst transitioned to Division I at the start of the 2024 season and the Bulls defeated the Lakers 4-1 in their most recent meeting at Broadview Stadium a year ago.
Buffalo defeated Niagara 2-0 in the season opener at Broadview Stadium on Wednesday night. Senior Eva Blatz scored the game-winner in the 18th minute off a set piece assist from Mae Hunt and sophomore Sofia Mastracci scored her first goal as a Bull in the 27th minute off an assist by Ella McDonald. Lexie Thompson made just one save on the night, but it was a highlight reel stop. UB outshot Niagara 15-5 overall, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Mercyhurst fell to Oakland 3-0 in the season opener on Thursday night. The Lakers were picked to finish seventh in the 2026 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' poll after finishing the 2025 season with a 6-8-2 overall record and 3-7-2 in league play. They return 23 players, including four of their top five goal scorers from a season ago, led by the trio of Maddi Cowburn, Caterina Cappiello and Mnamari Bosnjak who each recorded three goals last season. Sophomore Adri Lika is the lone returner between the pipes for the Lakers after compiling an 0-3-1 overall record with a 3.00 goals against average and .692 save percentage in four starts last year.
Up next, Buffalo will travel to Arizona for a pair of matches, beginning on Thursday, August 20 at Grand Canyon.
