AMHERST, Mass. – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (9-3-1, 5-2 MAC) saw its five-game win streak come to an end in a 2-0 loss to Massachusetts at Rudd Field on Thursday in the first meeting between the two programs.
Buffalo had a good look in the 15th minute as Julia Rocky took the free kick and played a big ball up the field to Jasmine Guerber who ran it down and drilled a shot on target that was saved by Leah Nisenfeld. The Bulls then recorded a pair of shots in the 27th minute but Nisenfeld was there to make the stops.
The Minutewomen went on the attack late in the half and capitalized as Peyton Costello weaved through the UB backline and found Caroline Dickson who ripped a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Dickson was at it again less than a minute later as she broke free and found the back of the net to put UMass up 2-0 at the half.
UB had a scoring chance in the 66th minute as Carolyn Hinkle ran down a long ball and ripped a shot in stride, but Nisenfeld was there for the save once again. The Bulls continued to press as they earned three corner kicks in a two-minute span but came away empty handed. Buffalo had another chance to get on the board in the 81st minute as Ellie Simmons played a big ball up to Ashley Reyes but she didn't get all of her shot attempt as it missed wide.
The teams were nearly even in shots and shots on goal while the Bulls maintained a 7-1 edge corner kick opportunities.
Up next, Buffalo returns home to host Central Michigan on Sunday, October 12 at 1pm. It will be Senior Day at UB Stadium and fans are encouraged to stay for a special postgame ceremony, presented by the UB Office of Alumni Engagement.Â
