LEXINGTON, Ky. – The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Thursday afternoon that the University at Buffalo volleyball program was one of 1,332 college and high school programs that have earned the USMC/AVCA Academic Award for the 2022-23 season.
As a team, the Bulls finished with a 3.541 GPA this past season, including 14 players with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 of better. Nine of those individuals have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
"I am especially proud of this group for prioritizing their academic success along with their successes on the court," stated Head Coach Scott Smith.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
"The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today." said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored."
