Bulls Host Northern Illinois, Travel to Bowling Green This Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (10-1-2, 4-0-2 MAC) looks to continue their winning ways this week as they host Northern Illinois on Thursday night before traveling to Bowling Green for a tilt against the rival Falcons on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday, it will be the 30th meeting between Buffalo and Northern Illinois with the Bulls owning a 12-9-3 series advantage. The Bulls and Huskies played to a 1-1 draw in DeKalb last season.
On Sunday, it will also be the 30th meeting between Buffalo and Bowling Green with the Falcons holding an 18-10-1 advantage. The Bulls defeated the Falcons 1-0 at Cochrane Stadium in the regular season before falling to the eventual MAC champions 1-0 in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament a year ago.
Buffalo is coming off a solid week in which they picked up a pair of shutouts in a scoreless draw at Miami (OH) and a dominating 3-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Senior Day on Sunday. The Bulls have now recorded nine shutouts on the year, which is tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history. UB is also on a 10-game unbeaten streak and is ranked 48th in the latest RPI. They are the only MAC team in the top 100.
Offensively, Sophomore Arianna Zumpano leads the Bulls with seven goals and an assist. Fellow sophomore Jasmine Guerber is close behind with six goals while freshman Katie Krohn has added four goals and junior Leah Wengender has scored three goals. The Bulls lead the MAC in total points (88), total assists (36), assists per game (2.77), shots on goal per game (7.54), shutout percentage (.692) and goals against average (.385) while ranking second in total goals (26) and scoring offense (2.00). Zumpano ranks fourth in the league in total goals (7) and fifth in total points (15) while Guerber is the MAC-leader in game-winning goals (4) and ranks fifth in total goals (6) and sixth in total points (14).
Defensively, fifth year goalkeeper Emily Kelly leads the conference and ranks in the top 10 in the nation in shoutouts (8), goals against average (0.389) and save percentage (.884) while freshman Ellie Simmons and senior Payton Robertson rank fourth in the MAC in total assists (5) and fifth in assists per game (0.38).
Northern Illinois enters Thursday's match with a 5-5-3 overall record and a 2-3-1 league mark after falling 3-1 at Akron on Sunday. The Huskies are led offensively by junior midfielder Claudia Muessig who has recorded four goals and an assist while junior forward Reegan Kingpavong has scored two goals. Eight other NIU players have recorded a goal on the season. Freshman goalkeeper Deighton Wamer leads Northern Illinois between the pipes, compiling a 4-3-2 overall record with 31 saves, a .721 save percentage and a 1.30 goals against average in 10 games.
Bowling Green is 5-4-3 overall and 3-1-2 in league play after a dominant 4-0 win over Ohio on Sunday. Senior forward Kennedy White leads the Falcons and the MAC with 11 goals and 23 points while freshman Brynn Gardner has recorded three goals and six assists. In net, Bowling Green is led by senior Lili Berg who is 5-4-3 overall with 51 saves, a 0.797 save percentage and a 1.15 goals against average in 12 starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will remain at UB Stadium on Thursday, October 20 to host Central Michigan in the final home game of the regular season at 7pm.
