Bulls Soar Past Falcons 2-1 on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (2-1-0) defeated defending conference champion Bowling Green 2-1 on a blustery day at UB Stadium on Sunday. It is the first win for UB over the Falcons since 2016.
Bowling Green struck first in the 17th minute as Jasmijn Dijsselhof capitalized on a UB turnover and put a shot past a diving Emily Kelly to give BG a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls would threaten with two good looks later in the half as Gianna Yurchak just missed left and then off a free kick, Hannah Callaghan got her head on a ball off the feed from Peyton Robertson but Lili Berg made the save.
Buffalo would get on the board in the 36th minute as Leah Wengender found Marcy Barberic up the sideline and she played a beautiful ball across the box into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the game 1-1 at the half.
Buffalo came out aggressive to start the second half and it paid off in the 50th minute as Yurchak found Barberic who knocked home her second goal of the day to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead as the UB defense limited the Falcons to just one shot the rest of the game to secure the victory.
Kelly made two saves in her second win of the season. Berg made four saves for BG.
"Really happy for the players," said head coach Shawn Burke. "This time of year the conditions are crazy and the wind all game made it difficult to do the things we like to do and train for, so it says a lot about our players that they could adjust and make the best of the situation. Bowling Green has set the standard and raised the level of this conference the last few years and I think a win like today just builds that belief amongst the team that they can play with anybody at any time and in any condition and that gives us a lot of momentum moving forward."
Buffalo returns to action on Thursday, March 18, as they travel to Akron for a clash with the Zips. Kick off is set for 7pm.
