BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team will make its sixth straight appearance in the Mid-American Conference Tournament this weekend as the Bulls will be the No. 4 seed and host the No. 5 seeded Akron Zips on Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
It will be a familiar foe for Buffalo as the Bulls and Zips played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon. The draw left the two teams with identical MAC records but, since UB had a better record against the top three seeds, Buffalo earned the No. 4 seed while Akron received the No. 5 seed.
UB finished off the regular season with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 5-4-2 MAC mark. The Bulls offense has been incredibly balanced throughout the regular season as UB scored 30 goals off the feet of 15 different players, the most of any team in the MAC, through 18 matches. Leading the offensive charge for UB is junior Marcy Barberic who has recorded five goals, three assists and 13 points, while Kara Daly has scored four goals to go with two assists and Kaitlyn Walsh and Hannah Callaghan have chipped in three goals apiece.
The UB backline has played consistent all season long, recording six clean sheets on the season. Sophomore Emily Kelly has been consistent between the pipes for UB, compiling an 8-7-3 overall record with a 1.02 goals against average, 76 saves and four shutouts while starting all 18 games for the Bulls this season.
The Zips earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament after closing out the regular season with an 8-9-2 overall record and a 5-4-2 MAC mark. Akron is led offensively by Carly Pcholinsky and Ashley Amato who have recorded five goals apiece this season. Sydney Worth has also been a main contributor as she has recorded seven points on three goals and an assist on the year.
In net, the Zips have relied on Libby Harper who has compiled a 7-7-2 overall record with a 0.94 goals against average and 56 saves in 19 appearances this season.
With a win, Buffalo will move on to the MAC Championship semifinals, which will take place at the highest remaining seed on November 8th. The championship match is set for November 10th.
