Women's Soccer Plays Binghamton To 1-1 Draw

BINGHAMTON, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (1-2-1, 0-0-0 MAC) battled to a 1-1 draw on the road at Binghamton on Sunday afternoon, 1-1. The Bulls outshot the Bearcats 25-9 for the game but couldn't break through with the game-winner. Carissima Cutrona netted her third goal in two matches for the Bulls.

How It Happened
- After a slow start offensively by both teams, the Bulls broke through in the eighth minute with the first goal of the match as Celina Carrero sent a perfect through ball to a streaking Carissima Cutrona who had a breakaway. Cutrona raced in and deked out the keeper before calmly placing the ball into the back of the net for her third goal in two games.
- The Bearcats had a pair of good chances in the 11th minute but Sydney Corda saw her shot go wide while Michele Galvin's blast went over top of the net.
- Andrea Niper had the Bulls next chance to extend the lead but her shot in the 23rd minute was grabbed by the Binghamton keeper.
- Off of a Moira Petrie corner kick in the 29th minute, freshman defender Adrianna VanCuyck recorded her first shot, missing just high.
- The Bobcats knotted the game, 1-1, in the 30th minute as Michele Galvin sent a perfect corner into the box where Patty Loonie headed home her second goal of the season.
- Rebecca Bramble had the final chance of the first half for the Bulls but her right-footed shot was saved by the Bearcats keeper.
- After a slow start to the second half, the Bulls had their best chance to break the tie in the 67th minute as Julia Benati ripped a shot off the cross bar and Carley Zoccali collected the rebound and just missed the top corner of the net. Dana Lytle then missed high just over a minute later as the Bearcats escaped without harm.
- Junior Julia Benati had a great chance in the 84th minute but the Binghamton keeper made a great save to keep the game tied.
- The Bulls had a flurry of shots in the last three minutes of action as Moira Petrie, Julia Benati and Celina Carrero all saw their shots saved.
- Carissima Cutrona had the first shot of overtime in the 94th minute but her shot was saved by the Binghamton keeper.
- Sydney Corda had a great header chance in the 99th minute but Cassie Betancourt made a huge save to send it into another overtime period.
- The Bulls had the lone shot in the second overtime as Jessica Marlowe saw her shot saved by the Bearcats keeper.

- The Bulls improved to 5-1-1 all-time against the Bearcats, outscoring them 13-2 in the process. UB has went 2-0-1 over the last three meetings.
- Celina Carrero notched her 14th career assist on Carissima Cutrona's goal. Carrero is now one assist shy of 10th place on the program's all-time assists list.
- Carissima Cutrona now has three goals on the year, tying a career-high from a season ago.
- The Bulls held the 25-9 edge in shots and 12-1 in corners for the game.
- Cassie Betancourt made four saves in the tie for the Bulls.

- Head Coach Shawn Burke: "I have to give Binghamton a ton of credit. They were up for it and gave it everything for 110 minutes. We created plenty of scoring chances but those don't win games, scoring does. If we can learn to play when we are uncomfortable, this team is capable of great things. We have to learn to win ugly sometimes."
