
Women's Soccer Drops MAC Opener To Ohio, 1-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-1-0 MAC) dropped their Mid-American Conference opener to the Ohio Bobcats on Friday night in front of the home fans, 1-0. The Bobcats scored in the 32nd minute and held on, handing UB their first loss at home since October 20, 2013 against Central Michigan.

- The Short Story: The Bobcats scored a pretty goal in the 32nd minute and the Bulls were not able to produce any dangerous chances as they dropped their first match at home in the last 16 tries.

How It Happened
- The Bobcats were able to notch the first shot on goal in the sixth minute as Carly Manso took a hard low shot that was gobbled up by Laura Dougall.
- In the eighth minute, UB finally had their first chance of the game as Carissima Cutrona launched a long shot that was denied by the Ohio keeper.
- In the 14th minute, Laura Dougall made her best save of the night as Stephanie Rowland fired a low hard shot towards the right corner of the net but she made the diving stop to keep the game scoreless.
- Eight minutes later it appeared that UB had got on the scoreboard first but Celina Carrero's header goal was waved off because of offsides.
- In the 32nd minute, Ohio took advantage of some miscommunication by the Bulls and recorded their first goal. Carly Manso worked her way to the top of the box and she fed Stephanie Rowland who placed a perfect low shot into the left corner of the goal.
- Down the stretch of the opening half UB was able to produce a pair of shots that were blocked and Moira Petrie saw her attempt go just over the cross bar.
- Not much happened in the beginning stages of the second half until Julia Benati was awarded a free kick. Her attempt around the wall was saved by Taylor Smith to keep the score 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
- In the 80th minute, Alexis Milesky had a great sliding shot that Laura Dougall turned away to keep the score 1-0.
- In the final five minutes, UB was only able to produce one long range shot from Jackie Hall that the Ohio keeper easily grabbed.
- UB had a corner kick with 40 seconds remaining but Angel Hart's shot went wide and Ohio held on to the road win.

- With the loss, UB has not won consecutive conference opening matches since 2001 and 2002.
- The Bulls held the 12-9 edge in shots while the corner kicks were knotted, 4-4.
