
Bulls Shutout Central Michigan On Senior Day, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer team (9-5-2, 5-2-1 MAC) won their third straight Mid-American Conference match on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium on Senior Day for five UB student-athletes. The Bulls completely dominated the Central Michigan Chippewas, 3-0, scoring at least three goals for the third straight match.

- The Short Story: On Senior Day at UB Stadium, the Bulls offense continued to click on all cylinders as they produced three goals for the third straight match in the 3-0 win over Central Michigan. The UB defense continued their strong play as they preserved their seventh cleansheet of the season as Laura Dougall moved into second place all-time in shutouts at UB with her 20th career shutout.

How It Happened
- Carissima Cutrona was able to record the Bulls first shot of the match in the fifth minute as she turned and fired a shot from distance that missed the goal to the left.
- In the 15th minute, the Bulls were able to notch their first goal of the game as Carissima Cutrona made a great move and passed it to Kassidy Kidd who made a great touch pass to a streaking Julia Benati who buried a great right-footed shot into the upper right corner.
- Two minutes later, Benati almost made it 2-0 but her blast was denied by a diving Central Michigan keeper to the upper right corner.
- Laura Dougall was able to make back-to-back saves in the 30th minute as she denied a free kick shot from Samantha Maher. Dougall was then able to get her hand on a shot from Maher again, poking the ball off the cross bar and out of play.
- After the big save from Dougall, Celina Carrero buried a pretty goal into the upper right corner of the net. Kristin Markiewicz played a great long ball to Carrero who handled the pass and put a perfect shot into the corner.
- A minute later, Rebecca Bramble nearly made it 3-0 in favor of the Bulls but her hard shot rang off the cross bar and out of play.
- Senior Kristin Markiewicz saved a goal in the 50th minute as she gathered a loose ball in the UB crease and cleared it away before the Central Michigan forward could knock the ball into the open net.
- In the 70th minute, Nicole Gerritz played a great ball to a wide open Kassidy Kidd but her hard shot was saved by the CMU keeper.
- Central Michigan had a good chance to score their first of the match in the 76th minute but Alexis Pelafas' header went just over the cross bar off the corner kick.
- In the 87th minute, the Bulls put the game away as Nicole Gerritz was able to convert on her first career goal. Angel Hart started the play with a great run down the right sideline and she fed a great pass to Gerritz who buried the ball in the right corner of the net, making it 3-0 in favor of the home team.
Inside The Numbers
- The Bulls have now won three straight MAC matches and are unbeaten in four straight MAC games.
- UB has scored 10 goals in their last three matches, the most goals scored in a three game span since 2001 when the Bulls netted 10 goals in three matches.
- With the win, UB improves to 6-1-1 at home this season and 17-1-2 at home over the past two seasons.
- The Bulls have now recorded 11 cleansheets in their last 20 home matches at UB Stadium.
- With her seventh shutout of the season on Sunday, Laura Dougall is now tied for second in program history with Ainsley Wheldon for shutouts in a career with 20.
- With her 1st half goal, Celina Carrero has now scored a goal in a career-best three straight matches and has recorded at least one point in five straight for the Bulls.
- Freshman Nicole Gerritz recorded her first career goal in the 87th minute for the Bulls.
- With her assist on Benati's goal, senior Kassidy Kidd has now recorded at least one point in four straight matches for the Bulls since making the switch to forward.
- With her goal, sophomore Julia Benati is tied for the team-lead with a career-high five goals. She also has a career-high 13 points on the year.
- With her assist, Carissima Cutrona now has a career-high five assists on the year and she has recorded at least one point in five of the last seven matches for the Bulls.
- Angel Hart recorded her first career assist on Nicole Gerritz's first career marker.
- Kristin Markiewicz recorded her first assist of the season and the fourth of her career in the win for UB.
- The Bulls held the 12-6 edge in shots as well as the 7-2 edge in corner kicks in the win.
- Andrea Niper, Carissima Cutrona and Julia Benati each recorded two shots in the victory.
- Laura Dougall finished off her 24th career victory with four saves for the Bulls.
- Five seniors, McKenzie White, N'Dea Johnson, Kristin Markiewicz, Jackie Hall and Kassidy Kidd all played in their final home regular season match.
Player of the Match
Following the match, Jackie Hall was awarded the "Player of the Match" award by the UB coaching staff after another strong defensive performance. Hall continued to lead a UB defense that earned their seventh cleansheet of the season against CMU.
