DeKalb, Ill. – The Buffalo women's soccer team (4-5-2, 1-3-0 MAC) was denied their second straight road conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Northern Illinois as the Huskies scored in the second overtime to give them the 2-1 win.
"The girls came out and battled hard today for most of the game but we need to execute better down the stretch," stated sixth-year head coach Michael Thomas.
For the game, Buffalo held the slim 7-6 advantage in shots while both teams recorded three shots on goal. The Huskies held the 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the victory. Courtney Mann led the Bulls offensively with three shot attempts and two shots on goal in the loss.
McMahon stayed hot on Sunday as she scored her team leading third goal on the season. McMahon got free and flicked a shot over the top of Amy Carr from 25 yards out, crossing the goal line in the 64th minute.
In the final five minutes, Northern Illinois scored the game-tying goal as Ainsley Wheldon was not able to stop the shot from Courtney Ksiazek. Wheldon was able to get a hand on the shot but the ball continued into the net.
Neither team was able to get anything going in the first overtime period but in the 101st minute, the Huskies finally broke through with the game-winning goal as Ksiazek picked up her second of the game.
The Buffalo defense of Courtney Gross, Natalie Jurisevic, Kristin Markiewicz and Sophie Therien played great in the opening 45 minutes of action, not allowing the Huskies to record a shot on goal and only one attempt in all.
The Bulls will return home to UB Stadium on Friday, October 11 as they play host to Kent State at 7:00 pm.
