KENT, OH - The Buffalo women's soccer team (2-9-2, 0-4-1 MAC) welcomed back junior goalie Ainsley Wheldon from injury Friday afternoon, but were unable to cash in on second-half opportunities and lost 1-0 at Kent State (6-3-2, 2-2-1 MAC).
Though the Flashes held a 16-10 advantage in shots, both teams put five shots on frame in the game. The team took three shots on goal in the first half, including a chance in the fifth minute by Shannon Algoe off a corner kick that was saved by the Kent State defense. Taylor Thompson had a pair of shots on goal within the first 23 minutes of play.
Early in the second half, the Bulls earned a corner kick but could not convert. The Flashes were able to counter attack off the set play and score the lone goal of the match. Jaclyn Dutton scored her 11th goal of the season in the 49th minute off a midfield pass for the home team, beating Wheldon from 12 yards out to the right side.
Megan Abman put a shot on goal in the 82nd minute and Sophie Therien was able to get a shot on frame in the waning seconds, but the increased late-game pressure would prove fruitless for the Bulls. Thompson led the team in shots on goal, with two, and freshman Kristin Markiewicz would also attempt a pair of shots in the game.
The Bulls will cap the weekend with another critical Mid-American Conference East Division match. Next up will be a Sunday afternoon game at Ohio, taking on the Bobcats for a chance at not only its first MAC win of the season, but its first true road win of the season as well. First touch will be at 1 pm.
