Jon Mangel begins his first season as Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports. He will primarily work with the men's basketball and volleyball programs.
Mangel comes to UB from Manhattan College where he was the strength and conditioning coach and Director of Men's Basketball Operations.
Mangel came to Manhattan from Georgia State University, where he helped lead the Panthers’ men’s basketball squad to the NCAA Tournament, while also working directly with the women’s basketball, women’s soccer and volleyball teams.
He also implemented sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for each of the department’s 14 Olympic sports, planned the renovation of the school’s sports arena weight room and served as the Interim Director of Olympic Sports, Strength & Conditioning.
Prior to his time with the Panthers, Mangel spent six years as the Director of Strength & Conditioning at Mercer University where he oversaw the design and implementation of the sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for the Bears’ 18 varsity teams. Additionally, he helped create the school’s 5,000-square foot weight room in the field house.
During his time with Mercer he helped guide the Bears to a win over Duke in the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Mangel has also worked at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Wofford College while serving as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Athletic Evolution Nike SPARQ Training Center.
A 2007 graduate from Florida State with a degree in exercise science, Mangel earned his master's in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern in 2015.
