Sean Conaty is the Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports at the University at Buffalo. In his current role he is directly responsible for the physical development and sports nutrition efforts of the men’s basketball and volleyball programs, as well as overseeing the Sports Performance Department that serves all of the student-athletes at Buffalo.
Previously, Conaty spent three seasons as an Assistant Sports Performance Coach at Eastern Michigan University where he worked directly with the men's and women's basketball programs as well as soccer and women's golf. Conaty joined the Eastern Michigan sports performance staff after serving as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. During his time at CNU, Conaty was in charge of all aspects of strength and conditioning with men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, and assisted with football.
Before that, Conaty held an internship and then strength and conditioning coaching assistant position for his first stint at EMU during the 2014 season. Before joining the EMU strength and conditioning staff, Conaty served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Springfield College, in Springfield, Mass. Prior to his graduate assistantship, Conaty held several strength and conditioning internship positions including stops with the Buffalo Bills, Merrimack College, East Carolina University, Fitness Quest 10, and IMG Academy.
The Monticello, NY native received his Master’s degree in strength and conditioning from Springfield College, after earning his Bachelor's degree in exercise science from East Carolina University. Conaty is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, and is an approved CSCCa mentor. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition, as well as Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified. Conaty also holds certifications through USA Weightlifting, USA Track & Field, Functional Movement Systems, and Reflexive Performance Reset.
