BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly soccer awards on Tuesday afternoon, with University at Buffalo graduate student defender Frederique St.-Jean named Defensive Player of the Week and junior Lexie Thompson earning Goalkeeper of the Week recognition.
This is the second weekly honor for Thompson, the first for St.-Jean and the fourth overall for the Bulls this season.
St.-Jean continues to serve as an anchor of the Buffalo backline as she helped lead the Bulls to a 2-0 shutout victory at Niagara on Wednesday night. The Montreal, Quebe native was a major factor in UB's set piece defense as well as her one-on-one defending late in the game. As a team, Buffalo has three shutouts in five games this season. That shutout percentage leads the MAC and ranks 35th nationally.
Thompson continues to be a force between the pipes for UB as she recorded her third shutout of the season in the win at Niagara night. The Levittown, NY native leads the MAC in save percentage (.875) and shutouts (3) and ranks second in goals against average (0.60).
The Bulls host Mercyhurst at UB Stadium in the non-conference finale on Thursday, September 11 at 7pm.
