BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (11-3-2, 7-2-1 MAC) played to a scoreless draw with Bowling Green on a cold and wet night at UB Stadium on Thursday.
With tonight's result, the Bulls remain in second place in the conference standings with two contests remaining.
The Bulls were in attack mode early and got off a pair of good shots in the opening 10 minutes as Jasmine Guerber took a shot that sailed high and out of play and then Carolyn Hinkle carried the ball and ripped a shot in stride that was saved by Peyton O'Malley.
The Falcons countered just a few minutes later off a corner as Jayna Searles took a shot from deep, but Lexie Thompson was there for the save. Later, Emma Stransky got loose and drilled a ball that clanged off the top crossbar and out of play.
Hinkle looked to counter a minute later as she recorded her second shot on target, but O'Malley was there to scoop it up and the game remained scoreless at the half.
The Falcons had their best chance of the game in the 61st minute as a high bouncing ball got behind the UB backline and Quinn O'Neill tracked it down and drilled a shot from just in front of the net, but Thompson made a highlight-reel kick save.
Buffalo looked to create in the final 15 minutes as Hinkle broke though and got a shot off from just inside the top of the box and then in the final seconds, Guerber made a run through the box but didn't quite get all of her shot attempt as O'Malley was there for a pair of saves and the game ended in a draw.
Bowling Green outshot the Bulls 10-7 on the night, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal and a 5-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Thompson made five saves on the night, while O'Malley made five stops of her own for the visitors.
"I'll give this team a lot of credit because we're not playing like one of the top teams in the conference, but they are finding ways to get really important results," said head coach Shawn Burke. "It's not always pretty, but they're doing enough and hopefully we can right the ship and make a run. We have the talent; we just have to find a way to put it all together."
Up next, Buffalo will travel to Toledo on Sunday, October 26 for their final road contest of the regular season. Kickoff from Paul Hotmer Field is set for 1pm.
