Bulls to Open the 2025 Season at the UNLV Desert Classic

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (0-0, 0-0 MAC) will begin their 2025 campaign on Friday at the UNLV Desert Classic. They'll open on Friday afternoon against the Oregon Ducks who check in at No. 23 in the national rankings. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. The Bulls will then play the tournament host in UNLV at 6 p.m. ET.

Head Coach Mike Ruechel enters his seventh season as the head coach at Buffalo in 2025. Last season, the Bulls finished with an overall record of 16-32 and 7-18 in MAC play. In 2024, he guided Alexis Lucyshyn and Julia Tarantino to Second-Team All-MAC honors. Off the field, seven Bulls earned Academic All-MAC distinction.

SERIES: This will be the first ever meeting between the Bulls and Ducks.
NOTES: The Bulls are 0-4 all-time against nationally ranked teams. The last time they played a ranked team was No. 9 Kentucky on March 11, 2022, in a 7-0 loss. The Bulls also faced No. 9 Georgia (2019), and in back-to-back games at the ULL/LSU Classic faced #10 Oklahoma State and #11 LSU in 2021.

SERIES: UNLV leads, 3-0
NOTES: The Bulls and Rebels last met on Feb. 16, 2018, at the Marucci Desert Classic. The Rebels beat the Bulls on a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth for the 6-5 win.

SERIES: Southern Utah leads, 2-1
NOTES: The Bulls defeated the Thunderbirds in their last meeting on March 9, 2013. The Bulls used a five-run fifth inning to take home the 6-3 win at the Mizzou Classic.
