BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (21-27, 8-13 MAC) fell in the final game of their series against the visiting Central Michigan Chippewas (22-18, 13-7 MAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls fought to the end before falling 5-2.
The Bulls got on the board first as Regan Terwilliger started the offense with her sixth triple of the season. Nicole Allen then hit the ball to shortstop, but Terwilliger's speed beat the throw to the plate to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
Buffalo kept their lead into the third until the Chippewas tied the game off an RBI double. The Bulls snatched the lead back in the bottom of the third. With runners in scoring position, Bri Delaney singled to short to score Tabitha von Kolen.
In the top of the fourth, the Chippewas tied the game at 2 with an RBI single to left. Central Michigan's offense took the lead in the fifth with a 2-RBI double to make it 4-2. Buffalo's offense went quiet as they recorded just one hit in their final three at bats. The Chippewas added an insurance run in the seventh for a 5-2 lead.
Terwilliger and von Kolen both had a pair of hits and runs scored. Terwilliger stands alone with the most triples in a career in program history with 11.
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday as they'll host the Syracuse Orange at Nan Harvey Field.
