
Program Record Eight Bulls Earn Softball Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the Academic All-MAC Softball honors on Tuesday afternoon. A total of eight Bulls made this year's list, setting a new program record. This marked the eighth consecutive year that at least four Bulls earned this honor.
Leading the way for Buffalo was senior first baseman Abbey Nagel as this was her third Academic All-MAC honor. Reagan Terwilliger took home the honor for the second time in her career as sophomores Emily Gorman, Ardyn Hopf, Genevieve Longsdorf, Bella Smithson, Ava Thelen and Malena Toth were first time honorees.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Student-athletes in their first year of competition are not eligible.
In her final season at Buffalo, Nagel started in all 56 games for the Bulls. She tallied a .320 batting average with 58 hits and 31 runs scored. The first baseman drove in 43 RBIs, the third most on the team. Nagel tied her career-high four hits against Boston U (2/7) while setting a career-high five RBIs. She hit three doubles at UMass (4/8) as she also had two doubles against Hofstra (3/1) and Ball State (5/1). Nagel cranked three grand slams on the season against Niagara (4/1), Miami (OH) (4/3) and Central Michigan (4/17). Finished her time at Buffalo tied for second with 46 career doubles. The first baseman recorded the most putouts in a career at UB with 1,208. Nagel holds the top fielding percentage in a career with .994. Tallied 98 RBIs at Buffalo, the fourth most in program history. Scored the second most runs in a career with 101. Her 18 home runs are tied for fifth in a career. Totaling 193 hits, one of four Bulls to reach the 190-hit mark. Ended her collegiate career starting in all 204 games, the most by a Bull in program history in a four-year stretch. In her senior campaign, she earned Second-Team All-MAC honors. She graduated with a degree in business administration and a 3.581 GPA.
A health and human services major holding a 3.677 GPA, Terwilliger started all 56 games for the Bulls. She set the career triples program record at 13 following eight triples on the season. Batting .390 with 67 hits, this was the second most on the team and third most in a single season in program history. The speed demon scored a program single season record 62 runs which ranked second in the MAC and 25th in the NCAA at the conclusion of the regular season. Her eight triples were the second most in the nation. Terwilliger set a career-high four RBIs against Central Michigan (4/17). The Arizona native set the single season stolen base record with 31, breaking a 16-year record. Terwilliger's 31 stolen bases ranked first in the MAC and 11th in college softball. Her .939 stolen base percentage was the top mark in the league and seventh in the country. She ranks second in program history with 52 career stolen bases. She earned Second-Team All-MAC honors this season. This is her first CSC Academic All-District honor.
Gorman had an excellent sophomore season as the Bulls' DP and outfielder. An intended exercise science major with a 3.610 GPA, she played in all 56 games with 55 starts. Gorman hit .351 in her sophomore campaign racking up 61 hits. Her 61 hits were the fourth most on the team and ranks fifth in program history for a single season. The sophomore earned 37 walks, tied for the most in a single season in program history. Her 45 runs scored was third on the team and is third in program history in an individual season. She stole 22 bases, the fourth most in program history in a season. Gorman recorded a career-high four hits at Bowling Green (3/28) and at UMass (4/8). She tied a career-high three runs scored against Boston U (2/7), Bowling Green (3/28) and Le Moyne (4/15). The Buffalo native drove in three runs against Boston U (2/7) and UMass (4/8).
Hopf appeared in 39 games with 36 starts as she battled through injury. She Tallied a batting average of .327 as she had 34 hits on the season, 12 of which going for extra bases. Had three-hit performances against CSU Bakersfield (2/6), Kent State (3/21) and Niagara (4/1). Hopf finished with eight doubles to go with a pair of triples against UConn (2/20) and at James Madison (2/27). Hit home runs against Northern Illinois (3/14) and Canisius (3/25). The second baseman had a career-high four RBI at Northern Illinois (3/13). Finished fourth on the team with a .500 slugging percentage while tallying an OPS of .905. Holds a 3.525 GPA while studying nuclear medicine technology.
Longsdorf, a sophomore pitcher, holds a 3.681 GPA as she's studying exercise science. She led the Bulls with 133.2 innings pitched. In 38 appearances, Longsdorf made 23 starts as she finished with a 9-10 record with three saves. Her nine complete games were the most on the team, went 5-4 in those games including wins over Kent State (3/20), Canisius (3/25), Bowling Green (3/27), Niagara (4/1) and Le Moyne (4/15). She led the Bulls with 54 strikeouts while recording a season-high six strikeouts against Bowling Green (3/27) and Ball State (5/1). She allowed just four hits in her wins over Kent State (3/20) and Niagara (4/1). Longsdorf tossed a career-high 7.2 innings pitched at UMass (4/8).
A neuroscience major with a 3.389 GPA, Smithson played in all 56 games with 54 starts, 51 starts coming behind the plate. She hit .302 with 48 hits, 22 of which going for extra bases. Finished with an OPS of 1.003, third on the team. Drove in 51 runs on the season. From behind the plate, Smithson led the country with 22 runners caught stealing at the conclusion of the regular season. She threw out two runners against Wisconsin (2/21), Louisville (2/22), UMass (4/7), Akron (4/11) and Ball State (5/1). Recorded a career-high four hits with 11 total bases at UMass (4/8) where she hit two home runs, one being a grand slam for seven RBIs. Earned 30 walks, good for fifth in a single season in program history. Defensively, finished with 153 putouts, 39 assists and a .985 fielding percentage.
Thelen, a sophomore infielder with a 3.505 GPA while studying biomedical sciences, appeared in 42 games with 38 starts at the shortstop position. She finished with 15 hits and 15 runs scored to go with her .240 on base percentage. Recorded a career-high three hits against Le Moyne (4/15) with one hit going for a double. Scored three runs against Boston U (2/7). Hit her lone home run of the season at UCF (2/8). Had 56 putouts, 60 assists and a fielding percentage of .906.
Toth, a sophomore pitcher made 29 appearances with 12 starts. She holds a 3.205 GPA as she intends to major in nuclear medicine technology. Finished the season with a 4-7 record with one save. In 75.1 innings pitched, she had an ERA of 7.62 with 32 strikeouts. Had a career-high 5.0 innings pitched against Wisconsin (2/21) and Kent State (3/21). Struckout three batters against Northern Illinois (3/14), Bowling Green (3/28), Miami (OH) (4/4) and Ball State (5/2). Earned wins against Kent State (3/21), Bowling Green (3/28), Niagara (4/1) and Le Moyne (4/15). Her lone save was against Hofstra (3/1). Allowed a career-low three hits in Buffalo's 6-4 win over Kent State (3/21).

Recorded a career-high four hits with 11 total bases at UMass (4/8) where she hit two home runs, one being a grand slam for seven RBIs.
