Bulls Sweep Le Moyne to Reach 20-Win Mark

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (20-25, 7-11 MAC) swept the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins (10-26, 7-8 NEC) on Wednesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. The Bulls won a close one to start the day, 7-5, before taking a mercy win to close the afternoon, 9-0. With their wins, the Bulls reached the 20-win mark for just the seventh time in their Division I program history and the first time since the 2022 season.
GAME 1
Buffalo's offense got off to a hot start as Emily Gorman led the game with a walk. Nicole Allen's 60th hit of the season came in style as she recorded an RBI triple. In the ensuing at bat, Bri Delaney hit a sac fly to center that scored Allen.
Leading 2-0, a Bella Smithson 3-run home run in the third extended the Bulls' lead to 5-0. This marked her 10th homer of the season.
Buffalo's defense was stifling as the Dolphins recorded their first hit of the afternoon in the fifth inning. They cut into Buffalo's lead off a 2-RBI single making it a 5-2 game. In the sixth inning, Le Moyne made it a ball game as a solo home run and an RBI single cut Buffalo's lead to just one.
The Bulls added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Gorman drove in Tabitha von Kolen. Delaney hit yet another sac fly that scored Gorman that made it 7-4 headed to the top of the seventh.
The Dolphins were down to their last out before an RBI double down the right field line cut the Bulls' lead to two. A fly out ended the game as the Bulls took home the 7-5 victory.
Allen went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Gorman and Nagel also recorded a pair of hits as Gorman scored twice.
Genevieve Longsdorf tossed a complete game with five strikeouts, allowing five runs on six hits.
GAME 2
The Bulls took care of business in the second game of the afternoon. Nicole Allen reached on a fielder's choice to the pitcher as Reagan Terwilliger came around to score. On the play, Emily Gorman also scored from second base.
Leading 2-0, the Bulls took down the Dolphins in order in the second. Ava Thelen led the second inning off with a single up the middle. Gorman then roped a triple to right center to score Thelen and extended the lead to 3-0. Terwilliger drove home Gorman on a sac fly to make it 4-0. Bella Smithson singled through the left side followed by Nagel reached on an error that scored a run. The Bulls took a 6-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Dolphins went down in order as they struggled to record a hit. Thelen led the inning off with a double in the right center gap. Gorman brought her home with an RBI single to second. Now leading 7-0, Allen hit a sac fly to left to score Gorman. Bri Delaney reached on an infield single, but Terwilliger's speed was good enough to score and make it a 9-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth a pair of base runners reached on walks, but no damage was done as the Bulls mercied the Dolphins, 9-0.
Malena Toth took home the win after four shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts. Olivia Russ closed the game out in the fifth.
Thelen, Gorman, Terwilliger and Delaney all had multi-hit performances. Allen led the way with three RBIs with Gorman chipping in a pair.
The Bulls are back in action this weekend as they'll host the Central Michigan Chippewas for a three-game series.
