GAME 1
Ball State's offense took flight in the second inning after an RBI single, and a 2-run home run gave them a 3-0 lead. Their offense stayed hot in the fourth as they tacked on another run with an RBI single and a 2-RBI single through the left side.
Leading 6-0, Ball State added a trio of runs in the fifth to make it 9-0. The Bulls avoided a mercy as they scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. After a lead-off triple by Reagan Terwilliger, Nicole Allen singled up the middle to get the Bulls on the board. With the bases loaded, Lily Lauck walked in a run to extend the game at 9-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bulls scored two runs. Emily Gorman hit a triple of her own as Terwilliger drove her in to make it 9-3. A fielder's choice by Bella Smithson scored Terwilliger to cut Ball State's lead to 9-4.
Ball State put the game away in the seventh as they scored five runs on four hits to take the series opening 14-4 win.
Nicole Allen, Bri Delaney and Abbey Nagel recorded two hits each. Reagan Terwilliger scored a pair of runs. Behind the dish, Bella Smithson brought her season total of runners caught stealing to a country's leading 22.
GAME 2
Ball State once again jumped to the early lead with a 2-run double down the left field line that made its way to the corner wall. Buffalo tied the game in the bottom of the second as Ardyn Hopf doubled to left center. Scoring on the play was Sophia Avin and Bri Delaney.
In the third, Buffalo took their first lead of the series as Delaney cranked a 2-run double to left center to give the home team a 4-2 lead.
The tides shifted in the fourth as a pair of extra base hits gave the Cardinals a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the sixth the Bulls tied the game. With Hopf on first base, Lily Lauck laid down a sac bunt, but an errant throw allowed Hopf to score as Lauck advanced to second base. With Tabitha von Kolen checking in to the game as a pinch runner, she advanced to third on a sac bunt by Delaney Ellis. Emily Gorman flew out to left, but it was deep enough to get the job done as von Kolen tied the game at 6.
Ball State scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-6 lead. Buffalo's offense attempted to keep the game going as Bella Smithson drove in Nicole Allen, but the offense stalled out as Ball State won, 9-7.
Bri Delaney went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Nicole Allen and Ardyn Hopf each had two hits.
The season will come to a close tomorrow against the Cardinals at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. Prior to the game at 12:45 p.m., Buffalo will honor Emily Watters, Lily Lauck and Abbey Nagel at Nan Harvey Field.
