BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced the signing of St. John's transfer Frederique St.-Jean on Tuesday. St.-Jean will join the Bulls for the 2024 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We've known about Fred for sometime now are glad she is finally joining our program," said Burke. "Her leadership and experience in the Big East will be a huge asset as we set our sights on returning to MAC championship play."
St.-Jean, a 5-10 defender from Quebec, Canada, comes to Buffalo from St. John's where she appeared in 52 matches and earned 36 starts for the Red Storm. Last season, she appeared and started in all 19 games, recording two goals, including the game winner against Colgate, and four assists while helping to lead the backline to seven shutouts. As a sophomore, she logged over 750 minutes across 22 matches, recording a goal and an assist. In her freshman season she started 10 of 11 matches, registering six shots across 896 minutes of action.
Before St. John's, St.-Jean was named Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Rookie of the Year in 2017-18 and was a two-time Division I RSEQ All-Star Team selection, as well as a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championship (CCAA) All-Star Team honoree. In 2017, St-Jean and the College of Francais qualified for the CCAA National Championship for the first time in program history after finishing second at the RSEQ Provincial Championship. In 2018, the College of Francais finished second at the RSEQ Provincial Championship before winning the CCAA National Championship.
