
Bulls Take Down Miami (OH) In 4-3 Thriller

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team claimed a 4-3 victory over Miami (OH) at the Miller Tennis Center in their final home match of the 2021 spring season. The win over the RedHawks completes the season sweep of Miami.
Miami took the early lead with a victory in doubles, picking up wins at one and two. The Bulls won at third doubles as Azra Deniz Comlek and Hsin-Yuan Shih won, 6-2.
A victory at first singles for the RedHawks gave Miami (OH) a 2-0 lead in the match, but the Bulls got on the board at third singles as Shih won 6-4, 6-3. Buffalo tied the match up with a win at fifth singles as Comlek won 6-4, 7-5.
The final three matches all went into three sets as Buffalo took a 3-2 lead in the match with a win at fourth singles. Sophomore Ambre Amat overcame a first set loss to win her match 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4). The RedHawks tied the match back up at 3-3 with a win at second singles, meaning the match would come down to sixth singles.
Freshman Mariana Carvajal Torres won her first set against Lena Babunski 7-5, but then Babunski stayed in the match with a tiebreaker win in the second set, 9-7. Torres dominated the third set winning the first five games en route to a 5-2 victory, clinching the match for the Bulls.
"I am so proud of this group and the resiliency they showed this afternoon," said head coach Kristen Maines. "This team continues to improve each and every match and it is important for us to finish this season out strong."
The Bulls conclude the regular season on Sunday at Eastern Michigan.
