
Bulls Host Akron in Regular Season Finale on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team wraps up the regular season on Thursday as they welcome the Akron Zips to UB Stadium for an afternoon matinee at 3pm.
It will be the 22nd meeting between Buffalo and Akron with the Bulls holding a narrow 10-8-3 series advantage. The Bulls went 1-0-1 in their two meetings with the Akron last season after defeating the Zips 2-1 in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the 2019 MAC Tournament.
Buffalo extended their unbeaten streak to four games and clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament with a win at Bowling Green and a draw against Toledo last week. Graduate student Marcy Barberic scored the lone goal of the weekend on a game-winning penalty kick to defeat the Falcons on Thursday. The UB defense has now recorded seven clean sheets on the season.
The Bulls have scored 31 goals on the year off the feet of 13 different players led by Barberic who has recorded nine goals and four assists while Arianna Zumpano, Gianna Yurchak and Katherine Camper have scored three goals each. The Bulls lead the MAC in assists per game (2.00) and rank second in shots on goal per game (7.00), scoring offense (1.82), points per game (5.65), total goals (31) and total points (96). Senior Emily Kelly has led UB between the pipes with 57 saves, while recording 1.03 goals against average and a .760 save percentage.
Akron enters the weekend with a 3-14-1 overall record and a 1-8-1 MAC mark after falling to Toledo and Bowling Green last week. The Zips are led offensively by freshman Katie Stafford who has recorded four goals and an assist on the year while junior Sydney Worthy has added a pair of goals. Freshman Penelope Cuirinier has led Akron between the pipes, compiling a 1.92 goals against average and a MAC-best 82 saves in 17 starts.
Following play on Thursday seeding for the 2021 MAC Tournament will be announced and the Bulls will find out their opponent for the quarterfinal round which will be played on Sunday, October 31 on the campus of the higher seed.
