
Women’s Soccer Opens Home Schedule This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – After two road matches to start the season, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team returns to UB stadium for their first home matches of the season where they will look to pick up their first win of 2019. The Bulls will welcome Houston Baptist on Friday night at 7pm and will face off with Albany on Sunday at 12pm.
On Friday it will be the first meeting between the Houston Baptist and Buffalo. In the second match of the weekend it will be the third meeting between Buffalo and Albany with the Bulls holding a 2-0 series record. UB defeated the Great Danes 2-0 in Albany last season.
The Bulls are coming off a tough loss last week as they fell 1-0 at St. Bonaventure, despite outshooting the Bonnies 18-3 for the match. UB has out-shot their two opponents 23-14 on the season but have yet to find the back of the net. Adrianna VanCuyck and Katherine Camper lead Buffalo with four shots a piece. Defensively the Bulls have allowed just four shots on goal in the opening matches.
Houston Baptist enter Friday's match with a 1-2 overall record after falling to Texas State 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday night. The Huskies are being led offensively by Avery Cortez who has scored three goals on the season, while recording a team-high nine shots and seven points overall. Xya Balderas is also enjoying a nice start to the year as she has recorded two goals on five shots in three starts.
In net, the Huskies have relied on redshirt freshman Ashtyn Franks who has started all three games, compiling a 1-2 overall record with a 1.40 goals against average with 13 saves on the year.
Albany enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record after picking up their first win of the season over Central Connecticut on August 29. The Great Danes are led by Jasmine Colbert who has scored two goals on five shots. Meghan Cavanaugh has also impressed, recording a team-high six shots and adding two assists on the season.
Andrea Leitner has led Albany in net as she has earned the start in two games and has compiled a 1.67 goals against average and nine saves in 270 minutes of action.
Following weekend play, Buffalo travels to Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday, September 12, for a 3pm tilt with the Red Flash.
