BUFFALO, NY – Temperatures were frigid but the University at Buffalo women's soccer team's offense was red hot as the Bulls dominated from start to finish in a 5-0 shutout win over Northern Illinois at UB Stadium on Friday night.
For the third straight game the Bulls would get on the board first as Hannah Callaghan scored her second goal of the season on a corner kick off the assist from Gurjeena Jandu to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
Buffalo would add to their lead less than four minutes later as Kara Daly gathered the rebound from Katherine Camper's shot and buried it into the bottom left corner for her third goal of the year to put UB up 1-0.
The offense would continue to click in the 30th minute as Leah Wengender received the pass from Camper and drilled one into the top left corner from just outside the box to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead.
The Bulls dominated the first half, outshooting the Huskies 21-1, including a 13-0 edge in shots on goal and an 8-0 edge in corners.
The offensive barrage continued in the second half as the Bulls got their second set piece goal in the 49th minute, again off the head of Callaghan for her second goal of the night to put UB up 4-0.
Just under 20 minutes later UB struck again as the Huskies were called for a PK in the box and Gianna Yurchak converted the penalty kick to give the Bulls a 5-0 lead.
Buffalo dominated the stat sheet as the Bulls outshot NIU 33-3, including a 21-0 edge in shots on goal and a 14-0 edge in corners. UB's 21 shots on target are tied for seventh nationally for shots on goal in a single game this season.
The Bulls' defense recorded their fifth clean sheet of the season, while Emily Kelly and Sarah Bykowicz combined for the shutout in net. Callaghan was named Player of the Match by the UB coaching staff for her two-goal effort on the night.
"Great team performance from start to finish," said head coach Shawn Burke. "We were able to play a lot of players tonight which is huge with two games in three days. When this team commits to the work, they get rewarded."
The Bulls return to UB Stadium for Senior Day on Sunday as the host Western Michigan in a Noon match.
