
Women's Soccer Earns First MAC Win; Blanks Bowling Green, 2-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-5-2, 1-2-0 MAC) notched their first Mid-American Conference victory of the season on Friday night at UB Stadium as they blanked the Bowling Green Falcons 2-0. The Bulls had one of their most dominant performances of the season as they earned their third shutout of the season and improved to 4-0-1 at UB Stadium on the year.

How It Happened
- The Bulls had the first scoring chance of the match just three minutes into action as Moira Petrie just missed the left corner of the net from 16 yards out after a great feed from Celina Carrero.
- Ashley Evans had a great chance to give UB the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute but her blast was right on goal and saved by the keeper.
- Buffalo finally got on the board in the ninth minute of action as Ashley Evans sent a perfect corner kick into the box where Andrea Niper headed home her second goal of the season.
- The Falcons got their lone shot on goal in the opening half in the 10th minute as Skylar Fleak ripped a shot that Laura Dougall saved.
- The Bulls nearly made it 2-0 in the 16th minute of play as senior Dana Lytle made a nifty move and ripped a right-footed shot off the cross bar before sitting on the goal line and being cleared by the Bowling Green defender.
- In the 18th minute, Carissima Cutrona just missed the right corner after a nice cross into the box from Nicole Gerritz.
- Over the final 20 minutes of the half, Bowling Green had the lone shot as Morgan Abbitt saw her shot go wide of the cage.
- UB had the first chance of the second half in the 51st minute as Ashley Evans sent the corner into the box where Celina Carrero found the ball and ripped a shot that was blocked away by a Bowling Green defender.
- Two minutes later, Adrianna VanCuyck blasted a shot just over the cross bar and out of play as the Bulls began to take control of the match.
- The Bulls made it 2-0 in the 60th minute as Moira Petrie played a great long ball down the right wing to Nicole Gerritz who crossed the ball into the box where Carissima Cutrona netted her seventh of the season into the right corner.
- Bowling Green had a good chance in the 80th minute as Jennifer Reyes fed Erica Hubert who launched a shot over the top of the cage.
- In the 81st minute, Dana Lytle had a great shot toward the right corner that the Bowling Green keeper made a diving stop on to keep the score 2-0 in favor of UB.
- UB had their final chance of the match in the 84th minute as Rebecca Bramble ripped a shot that was saved at point blank range. The ensuing rebound bounced right to Nicole Gerritz who took a shot that was blocked away by the Falcons defender and out of the box.

- With the win, the Bulls have now won four of their last five matches against Bowling Green.
- With her game-winning goal, Andrea Niper has tied a career-high with two goals and has one game-winner in each of the last three years.
- With her assist, Ashley Evans now has a career-high two assists on the year.
- Sophomore Carissima Cutrona netted her seventh goal of the season, a team-high and career-high for the Williamsville native.
- With her assist on Cutrona's goal, Nicole Gerritz now has a career-high three helpers on the year.
- Junior Laura Dougall added to her program record for shutouts with her 24th of her career. Dougall now has three clean sheets on the year.
- Laura Dougall draws within five wins of the program record as she notched the 29th win of her impressive career.
- UB held the 13-5 edge in shots and the 7-2 advantage in corners in the win.
- Carissima Cutrona led all players with three shots while Dana Lytle and Ashley Evans each notched two in the victory.
