OVERLAND PARK, KA - University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer senior captain Jackie Hall was named one of 30 women's soccer student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in college soccer, as announced on Thursday afternoon. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
"Once again we are extremely proud of Jackie Hall and everything she has done thus far in her career both athletically and academically," stated head coach Shawn Burke. "To be consider in the top 30 for the Senior CLASS Award is a tremendous honor and she has been a first class ambassador for this program as well as the State University of New York at Buffalo."
Of the 60 candidates, 25 have grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, four are returning All-Americans and eight are on the preseason watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, which recognizes the top player in collegiate soccer. Hall is the lone member of the 30 women's candidates to have a grade-point average over 3.5, be a returning All-American and be on the preseason watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. Hall and Madison Oyer of Ball State are the lone representatives from the Mid-American Conference named as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
"I feel very lucky to even be nominated for an award like this, and to make the cut is even better," said senior Jackie Hall. "It's nice to know some of the extra work I put in to things is also being recognized and I'm glad to be representing not only the UB Women's Soccer team, but the University at Buffalo in a positive light."
Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.
Each of the two candidate classes, men's and women's, will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup championships in December.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
