BUFFALO, NY – Leading the State University of New York, Buffalo women's soccer team to another road weekend sweep, sophomore forward Celina Carrero was named Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Carrero now joins senior Katie Roberts as the only Bulls to receive the award this season. The honor for Carrero is the first of her UB career. Fellow teammates Laura Dougall and Jackie Hall have each earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once so far this season.
The Newburgh, NY native was the best player on the field all weekend long for the Bulls as she collected three goals over the two road conference matches. Carrero notched both game-winning goals for the Bulls as they extended their program record MAC unbeaten streak to eight matches (6-0-2).
On Friday, Carrero notched a first half goal that stood up as the game-winning marker for UB as they defeated Central Michigan for the first time since the 2007 season. Carrero finished Friday's match with three shots in the victory.
On Sunday, Carrero was a nightmare for the Toledo Rockets all afternoon long as she finished the match with two goals, her first career two goal effort, in the Bulls 3-0 conference win. Carrero scored the game-winner for the Bulls on a partial breakaway after a perfect lead pass from captain Courtney Mann.
For the season, Carrero ranks second on the team in all major categories including goals (six), points (15) and game-winning goals (three). The Bulls are a perfect 5-0 this season when Carrero scores a goal.
The Bulls are currently riding an eight game unbeaten streak, their longest unbeaten streak since 1999 when they went 12 games without a loss. UB returns to the pitch on Friday, October 24 as they play host to Ball State at 5:00 pm at UB Stadium. Sunday the Bulls will honor their senior class of seven players before their 12:00 pm match against Miami (OH).
