BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team returns home for their first match at UB Stadium in over a month this weekend as they play host to Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan. Friday's match against Bowling Green will be a 7:00 pm start while Sunday's contest against Eastern Michigan will start at 12:00 pm.
The Bulls enter the contest with an overall record of 6-2-1 on the season and a conference mark of 2-0-0 following a perfect weekend against Kent State and Ohio last weekend. The 2-0 start in MAC play is the first for the Bulls since the 2001 season. UB continues to be led offensively by senior forward Katie Roberts, who was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week and UB Athlete of the Week this past week. Roberts recorded back-to-back game-winning goals this past weekend and now leads the Bulls in goals (four), assists (two), points (10), shots (30) and game-winning goals (three). Sophomore Celina Carrero has also been dangerous in the attacking third as she has recorded three goals and two assists through nine matches.
The UB defense continues to lead the way as the backline of Jackie Hall, Sophie Therien, Kristin Markiewicz and Angel Hart have prevented dangerous opportunities all season long, allowing five shots on goal or less in five of nine contests this season. When challenged, freshman goalkeeper Laura Dougall has been up to the test as she owns a 6-1-1 overall record. The Pickering, Ontario native has racked up six shutouts, tied for fourth most in a single season in program history, and has a goals-against average of 0.36 on the season.
Bowling Green enters the weekend with a 1-8-0 overall record and a 0-2-0 MAC record following losses to Ball State and Miami (OH) over the weekend. The Falcons are currently on a four-game losing streak after a dominant 8-0 victory over Chicago State. Offensively, the Falcons are led by Sidney Huth who has recorded two goals and two assists while only starting three matches. In net, Lauren Cadel has made 56 saves while holding a 2.36 goals-against average on the season.
UB will then move on and host the defending Mid-American Conference champions, Eastern Michigan. The Eagles currently own an overall record of 6-2-1 and a MAC record of 2-0. Leading the Eagles offensive charge is Angela Vultaggio who has racked up five goals and one assist so far this season. In goal, Megan McCabe owns a 6-1-1 record and a goals-against average of 0.72 while earning four shutouts through eight games.
The Bulls are aiming for their first 3-0 start in MAC play since the 1999 season when the team started out 5-0.
