BUFFALO, NY – Senior goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon of the Buffalo women's soccer team was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Wheldon stood tall in net for the Bulls over their perfect 2-0 weekend of action. Wheldon capped off the week with a 1-0 shutout victory over Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon in front of the home fans. Wheldon finished the game with four saves including two first half diving saves to preserve the game for the Bulls. On Friday, Wheldon was just as solid in net, making three saves in the Bulls 2-1 victory over Big Four rival St. Bonaventure.
With the shutout on Sunday, Wheldon now ranks second in school history with 16 career shutouts. She is just five shy of tying the all-time mark set by Jaime Adams. For the season, she has a 2-1-0 record with a goals-against average of 1.00.
The Bulls will return to the field on Tuesday, September 10 at 7:00 pm as they play host to Cornell in their second of seven consecutive home contests.
