YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (5-8-3, 2-6-1 MAC) used a early second half goal from Megan Giesen and some great defense down the stretch to earn a 1-1 draw on the road Friday afternoon at Eastern Michigan (9-6-2, 6-2-1 MAC).

"The girls put forth a solid 110 minute effort this afternoon," stated head coach Michael Thomas. "I thought we came out strong in the second half and finally got a ball to bounce our way on the goal. We will try to take this momentum into Sunday's match against a very good Western Michigan squad."

The Bulls scored the game-tying goal just four minutes into the second half of action following a great corner kick volley from Sophie Therien. Therien's corner kick found its way to Jackie Hall in front of the net and her quick shot was turned aside but went right to Giesen who buried her second goal of the season.

Buffalo fell behind early on in the opening half as in the 11^th minute Angela Vultaggio buried a pretty header behind Ainsley Wheldon. Stephanie Clarke picked up the lone assist on Vultaggio's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Bulls had two chances to end the game in the second half as Andrea Niper had her shot saved by Megan McCabe in the 74^th minute and Therien's blast in the 80^th minute was turned away by the home keeper.

Overtime did not present very many chances for either squad as Wheldon made a save on the lone Eagles shot and the lone Bulls shot came off the foot of Karen McMahon, sailing just over the cross bar.

For the game, Wheldon continued her strong play between the pipes as she made five big stops for the Bulls, moving into third place on the all-time saves list with 376 in her career. McMahon led all Bulls with four shot attempts while Therien, Jackie Hall and Giesen each finished with two shot attempts in the tie.

Buffalo stays on the road for more conference action on Sunday, as they will travel to Western Michigan for a 1 pm contest.
