BUFFALO, NY - After a season where she stepped into a major starting role on the defense and also scored a pair of goals, defensive back Kristin Markiewicz was named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman team, as announced by the conference Thursday evening along with its other regular season awards.
Kristin stepped into a starting role early in the season, starting in 16 games while playing in all 19 games. She played center back on a veteran defensive back line that allowed 70 fewer shots and 53 fewer shots on goal, shutting out the opposition four times. She scored a goal in her first collegiate game, also taking a pair of shots against Colgate in August, and also scored the game-tying goal of a 2-1 comeback win over Bowling Green. For the season, she took 11 shots.
This marks the second straight season that the Bulls have put a player on the All-Freshman team, after Katie Roberts and Megan Giesen earned spots last season.
In the other awards handed out, Miami (OH) Redhawk Jess Kodiak was awarded the offensive player of the year award, and her coach Bobby Kramig was named the MAC coach of the year after leading the team to an undefeated conference season. Central Michigan's Bailey Brandon was named the defensive player of the year.
