MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - Facing dreary weather and a strong defense in Central Michigan (11-4-1, 7-1-0 MAC), the Buffalo women's soccer team were worn down in the second half, allowing three goals in a 3-0 loss. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the team in Mid-American Conference play and drops UB to 4-10-2 this season.
The team was put on its heels for most of the match, having to defend against a Chippewa offense that took 23 and held the Bulls to just a pair of shots. The Chips scored in the 56th minute from five yards out after Wheldon came out to try and make the stop and was unable to corral the ball. Goal number two came in the 71st minute, when Central's initial shot stuck in a puddle out in front of the net before it was picked up and scored before Wheldon could make the clear. The final goal would come in the 82nd minute of play.
Junior goalie Ainsley Wheldon made five saves in just over 70 minutes of play, before being relieved by Sarah Moore in the 71st minute. The UB offense had limited chances, and two solid chances halted by offsides calls.
The team enters must-win territory with only three games remaining in the regular season, but all three will be contested at UB Stadium. First up will be a 7 pm match against Eastern Michigan on Friday, followed by a noon match on Sunday against Western Michigan.
