BUFFALO, NY - Starting the season with two straight shutout wins helped goalie Ainsley Wheldon earn co-defensive player of the week from the Mid-American Conference. The sophomore from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada led the way to help the Bulls surpass last year's win total just two games into the season with a 1-0 shutout of Bucknell Friday evening at UB Stadium.
Wheldon made five saves and controlled pace on corner kicks and all play in the box. The game as a whole was bitterly close, with each team taking seven shots and only a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks for Bucknell, with a lone goal late in the first half from Karen McMahon and a calm presence from Wheldon making the difference.
Now 2-0, the team will hit the road in a mid-week game, taking on another Patriot League squad as Buffalo will face Colgate on Wednesday. Kick off is scheduled for 4 pm.
