BUFFALO, NY - Buoyed by a deep returning cast and a dynamic recruiting class, fourth-year head coach Michael Thomas and his staff announced the team's schedule for the 2011 season. The 19 game season will feature 10 home games, with everything kicking off August 19.
After an exhibition match on August 14, the team will begin on the road at Binghamton, taking on the Bearcats after a year off in the intrastate rivalry. The team will then return home for its opener one week later, taking on Bucknell August 26. Following a mid-week trip to Colgate, the team will hold a three-game homestand and welcomes in St. Bonaventure (9/3), Temple (9/9) and IPFW (9/11). The non-conference schedule will wrap up with the Niagara University Fall Classic, with a Friday match against the host Eagles followed by a Sunday morning game against Canisius.
The team's Mid-American Conference season opening weekend will be held at UB Stadium, with a Friday match against Bowling Green on Friday before a Sunday showdown against last season's MAC East champion, Miami (OH). It will only get tougher the following weekend with defending conference champion Central Michigan and a very tough Eastern Michigan squad will take on the Bulls on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Back at UB Stadium Oct. 7 and 9, the Bulls will face Northern Illinois and conference runner-up Western Michigan before hitting the road for the final time. Road matches against Ball State, Toledo and Ohio will challenge the team before the return home for Akron on Sunday, Oct. 23. The team's senior day will be the following Thursday, Oct. 27, with a season finale against Kent State.
In other news, the members of the team were recognized this past semester as the top women's team for academics, earning the top cumulative grade point average for this past Spring.
