2011 Capital One Academic All-America Teams
BUFFALO, NY - For her efforts both on the field and in the classroom, junior defender Shannon Algoe of the women's soccer team has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American Second Team. The honor, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The junior from Lockport, NY was named to the Academic All-District I team in early November, earning the honor among all Division I women's soccer players from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Algoe, a business administration/ management major, posted a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and anchored a nationally ranked defense to earn the regional recognition.
Algoe was one of 11 players on the second team, and joined 32 other players in the entire country to become an All American. She joined an impressive contingent from the Mid-American Conference, as she joins four other MAC players on the list of 33.
