DENVER, CO - The Buffalo women's soccer team will return to campus still searching for its first win following a 3-0 loss at the University of Denver Sunday afternoon. The team continues to try and find its identity on offense as its scoreless streak has been pushed to 210 minutes following a second straight shutout.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 39th minute off a free kick. Freshman forward Karen McMahon attempted to even the score but was denied on two shots before the end of the half. A second goal in the 48th minute extended Denver's lead to two.
Freshman goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon had a busy afternoon with nine saves, nearly matching the amount of saves she recorded during the first two games of the season. In the 12 minutes following the second Denver goal, Wheldon helped turn away five shots on goal and four corner kicks.
The Bulls made a rush in the waning minutes of the match, with shots on goal from Lindsey Bailey and Taylor Thompson, and a corner kick from Shannon Algoe all turned away.
With the team's western road trip coming to a close, Big Four rival St. Bonaventure will be next up as Buffalo will open its home slate Friday evening against the Bonnies. The 7:00 pm kickoff will be the 22nd meeting between the local rivals, with the all-time series record knotted up at 10-10-1.
