BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo women's soccer player Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) was recently called up by the Canadian National Team to participate in a training camp and international match against China. The week-long camp in Chongqing, China will culminate with an international friendly match against China on April 24. McCalla graduated from UB in 2008 after an outstanding career with the Bulls, where she started every game in her junior and senior seasons.
McCalla is one of 22 players selected for the camp, which has
been underway since April 18, and includes players from all over
Canada, most of whom have professional or collegiate experience in
the United States. McCalla is the first Buffalo women's
soccer player to play for a national team.
McCalla was a vital part of the Bulls' front line in her time
at UB, and started in all but five games throughout her career.
McCalla was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman team
and was named the team's Most Outstanding player after her
sophomore year. She finished her career with nine goals and 18
assists. Her 18 assists put her tied for fifth on UB's
all-time career records list.
The April 24 match will be Canada's first match against China under the guidance of national head coach Carolina Morace. The team has already won five consecutive international matches, including a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in the 2010 Cyprus Women's Cup Final.
