TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women's
soccer team fell to Toledo, 3-1, on the road Friday afternoon. UB
goalkeeper Amy Coron had 13 saves in net, giving her 92 saves on
the year. With the 13 saves in today's game, Coron takes over
the top spot on UB's all-time career saves list with 419.
The Rockets took an early lead scoring a goal in the third minute
of play and extended their lead with another goal at the 29:04 mark
of the first half, sending the Bulls into halftime with a two-goal
deficit. The Bulls got on the board midway through the second half
as leading goal scorer Stephanie Velez belted a free kick into the
far right corner of the net at 62:40. The unassisted goal was
Velez's fifth of the season. Natasha Arana added a shot on
goal for Buffalo, while Velez and Lindsey Bailey each had a shot in
today's match. The Rockets put the game away, scoring their
third goal of the game at the 66:22 mark, resulting in the 3-1
final.
"It was nice to see us generate a goal in the second half,
but it was obviously not the result we wanted," said head
coach Michael Thomas. "Now we need to focus on getting a
split out of the weekend and getting a win at Bowling
Green."
Coron faced 21 shots from the Rocket offense, making 13 saves.
After today's game, Coron now has 419 career saves and takes
over the top spot on UB's all-time career saves ranks,
bettering Nicole Pittaro's 414 saves between 1992-1995.
"It's a true sign of her consistency that she's
been here for four years and has always been a player you can count
on," said coach Thomas.
The Bulls continue their road trip with a game against Bowling
Green on Sunday, October 18. The game is set for 1 pm at Cochrane
Field.
